Role at a Glance
TAIT is seeking a Stormwater Specialist to support stormwater compliance and environmental permitting efforts across a variety of active projects. In this role, you’ll perform field inspections, maintain SWPPP documentation, coordinate compliance reporting, and work closely with project teams to ensure adherence to NPDES requirements and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform stormwater compliance inspections, including storm drain system checks and active site evaluations
- Conduct NPDES-related sampling and ensure proper documentation and chain of custody
- Maintain and update SWPPP documentation based on site conditions and inspection findings
- Review BMPs in the field and identify maintenance or compliance concerns
- Prepare and submit inspection reports, annual reports, and environmental assessment (EA) documentation
- Use GIS tools and site plans to review drainage patterns and support mapping updates
- Track compliance requirements and reporting deadlines across multiple projects
- Upload and manage documentation within regulatory systems such as SMARTS or similar platforms
- Coordinate with field teams, contractors, and project managers to resolve deficiencies and close out action items
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
- 3+ years of experience in stormwater or environmental compliance
- Direct experience working with NPDES permits and stormwater management programs
- Background in environmental consulting or public agencies (City, County, RWQCB, etc.)
- Experience conducting field inspections and preparing compliance reports
- Familiarity with drainage maps, site plans, and basic GIS tools
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects independently
- Valid and current California driver’s license
- Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) certification
- QSP (Qualified SWPPP Practitioner) or QSD (Qualified SWPPP Developer) certification
- Ability to sit for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to travel between multiple job sites
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions
Salary range for position: $65,000/yr – $90,000/yr
